Abstract
The issue of the presence of the hijab and its importance in the first Islamic century is one of the fundamental issues regarding the issue of women’s cover and hijab. This documentary analytical study was conducted to analyze the historical documents on the issue of women’s hijab in the first Islamic century, and how the Prophet (PBUHH) and other Imams of the religion (PBUH) dealt with the women without hijab in the early period of Islam. For this purpose, all written scientific sources, including relevant books, articles, and hadiths were examined. The claim was also analyzed and criticized that there is the absence of a historical report on the prohibition of the Prophet and religious leaders [Imams] in the early period of Islam on removing the hijab and the failure to punish the women without hijab, which indicates that the ruling on the hijab was not implemented in early Islam.
The findings showed that evidence such as the effect of ripping a woman’s covering on the occurrence of some battles, public opinion’s condemnation of some women leaving the hijab, changing women’s covering after the revelation of the verses about the hijab, and the protest against ripping the covering of captive captives of Karbala, all confirm the importance of the hijab in the early days of Islam.
There are also historical narratives that indicate the urging of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his household) and Imam Ali (peace be upon him) to observe the hijab in the form of commandments, advice, or supplications, and the prohibition of leaving the hijab and turning away from the women without hijab, which are among the pieces of evidence that contradict the aforementioned claim, which confirms the status of the hijab and the extent of its importance in the early days of Islam.
